His Excellency Mr. Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, paid an official visit to the Republic of Serbia from 27 to 29 November 2025, at the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia.

Official Welcome and Bilateral Meetings

Upon his arrival in Belgrade, His Excellency President Tshisekedi was welcomed by Mr. Ivica Dačić, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia, together with a delegation of Congolese officials.

Following the full military and protocol honours accorded to visits at the highest level, the official talks took place at the Palace of Serbia, where the two Heads of State first held a private meeting, followed by an expanded session with members of both delegations.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, which have long been characterised by friendship and cooperation rooted in the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement. Both Presidents expressed their shared commitment to reinforcing political, economic, and technical cooperation between the two countries.

President Tshisekedi expressed his gratitude to President Vučić for Serbia’s consistent support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“My country is the victim of an unjust and barbaric aggression by a neighbouring State, Rwanda. Feeling supported during such trials is a great source of comfort for us. I therefore wish to thank President Vučić for this,” he declared.

For his part, President Vučić thanked his counterpart for his commitment to the principles of international law, which are central to Serbia’s foreign policy and to the preservation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During his visit, President Tshisekedi also held productive discussions with Ms. Ana Brnabić, President of the National Assembly, and with Mr. Djuro Macut, Prime Minister, enabling further institutional dialogue between the two nations.

Signing of Agreements and Strengthening of Cooperation

Following the meetings, several bilateral cooperation documents were signed, covering key areas of mutual interest, including:

• education and training,
• agriculture,
• health,
• infrastructure,
• security and defence,
• as well as other priority sectors for the development of both nations.

These commitments reflect a shared determination to energise exchanges, stimulate investment, and strengthen institutional capacities through the implementation of joint programmes.

Meeting with the Congolese Diaspora

During his stay, His Excellency President Tshisekedi also met with members of the Congolese community residing in Serbia.

He praised their contribution to the international image of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and encouraged them to remain actively engaged in promoting the country’s development.

The First Lady of the DRC and the spouse of the President of the Republic of Serbia took advantage of the visit to make an official visit to the Museum of African Art, highlighting the importance of cultural dialogue between the two nations.

International Perspectives and Strategic Engagements

As part of the visit, the President reaffirmed the DRC’s commitment to the principles of peace, stability, and international cooperation.
He also referred to ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening regional peace, emphasising that the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains fully engaged in dialogue and collective security initiatives.

The State Visit of His Excellency President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to the Republic of Serbia marks a significant step in deepening relations between Kinshasa and Belgrade.
It opens new avenues of cooperation based on mutual respect, historical solidarity, and the shared ambition to build a durable and mutually beneficial partnership.

The Honorary Consulate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Novi Sad welcomes this positive dynamic and reaffirms its commitment to supporting the development of these new areas of collaboration in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.

On July 5, 2024, the official opening ceremony of the honorary consular office of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Novi Sad took place. The consulate was opened by H.E.M. Joseph Kalala Mulamba, Ambassador of the DRC to the Republic of Serbia, in the presence of diplomatic and local staff of the Embassy in Belgrade.

On the occasion of this event, Mrs. Radmila Bašević, honorary consul, hosted a reception marked by the presence of many distinguished persons, among others the special envoy of H.E. Marko Đurić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia in the person of acting Assistant Minister for Consular Affairs Ambassador Nataša Rašević.

Also present at this event were Prof. Dr. Jovan Janjić Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Mrs. Sandra Božić, Vice President of the Government of AP Vojvodina, M. Igor Crnobarac, Deputy Mayor of the City of Novi Sad, numerous members of the central and provincial Governments, representatives of respective Chambers of Commerce, Ambassadors and Diplomats accredited to Serbia, M. Rajko Marić, President of the Consular Corps in Serbia and Consuls of other countries present in the region, representatives of scientific, educational and cultural life and civil society, as well as a large Congolese community living in Serbia.

The Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) have elected H.E. Felix- Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), as the new Chairperson of the African Union for the year 2021. The event took place on 6 February 2021 during the Thirty-Fourth (34th) Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union, holding virtually in Addis-Abeba.

 “It is a unique privilege for the DRC which accedes to the presidency of the AU at a symbolic and highly significant moment when we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the disappearance of a worthy son of Congo and Africa, Patrice- Emery Lumumba”, declared the President in a speech for the occasion.

The official theme for the year 2021 is “Arts, culture and heritage: levers to build the Africa we want”.
